Tips: Leaving Training in Power

(Name withheld by request)

These suggestions will help you to detach and disconnect from TIP:

Let go of any shame or guilt you feel about leaving. You have a right to leave. You have a right to question anything without being shamed or made to feel wrong.

You may have some fear come up when you do this, it’s normal. We sometimes fear change, but remember that the fear of leaving was INSTILLED in you in the training. Breathe and remember how great it feels to make the decision to leave.

Take care of any business with the training you need to wrap up prior to leaving. Fulfill any obligations you have. This will help you to leave with a clean slate. For example, if you are signed up to do meetings and know you can’t, call and either get someone to do them for you or tell the supervisor that you aren’t available after all. Do what you need to do so you feel okay about how you left.

Once you have decided to leave, take yourself out of the tandem. Nobody will notice, it feels fantastic and freeing. Let it go completely.

Remove yourself from the tip construct

Leave the training as soon as you feel ready.

Send in an official letter of resignation to your level and to the Academy. This is big. It supports your integrity, cuts energy ties, and it feels great.

Stop seeing any old tip friends who shame you or put you down for your decision to leave. If you really want to stay connected to some of your old colleagues – the ones who can respect your decision without putting you down or addressing you – then great, enjoy them.

Prepare yourself for changing friendships when you leave tip, you may suddenly be dropped.

Get support from others who’ve left or from friends who aren’t in Training In Power.

Let yourself be angry. Let yourself feel the sadness and the loss.

Embrace new possibilities.

Rest and Recover. Training In Power took a lot of focus, time, attention and money. Take time to rebuild.

Take on fun, easy new tasks.

Give yourself time to be alone, to go for long walks. To have free evenings. When you’re ready you’ll find new things to do.

Re-connect with friends and family you had before joining the cult.

Be Gentle with yourself. No one plans to be in a cult.

Recognize that Brain Washing and Indoctrination started happening right at Level 1.

Talk to friends and family outside tip about what was happening in the training. When you say it out loud to someone not in tip, it sounds so ridiculous and bizarre that it helps to break the bonds of the brain washing. It’s also good for a laugh – a good hearty laugh. It helps us acknowledge that it was crazy. It also helps us reconnect and ground in the real world.

Get help.

Read books on cults.

Validate your own experience of being in the training. If something didn’t feel correct to you, chances are it wasn’t correct.

Be prepared to feel feelings that you’ve had to bury in the training.

Be prepared to grieve. It’s a normal part of the process of leaving.

Join the Open Circle on-line support group.

Speak up about how you were hurt, duped, confused and lied to in the Training. This is part of the healing process.

Go back to old hobbies and interests you had before the training. Paint, Write, Garden, Sing.

Get physically active. It’s a great way to process through the anger.

Disillusionment is not uncommon in the recovery process. Use it to help you define what the truth is for you now. What do you believe?
